Mission Statement:
Nutmeg provides low-cost spay/neuter services for cats & dogs throughout Connecticut and beyond. Our mission is to end pet overpopulation. It is our dedication and desire to help end the needless practice of euthanasia at animal-facilities and private shelters. It is our vision that this clinic will help bring awareness to the community while decreasing unwanted litters being born.
In 2017, Nutmeg became the first and only non-profit in Connecticut that participates with the “Pets for Life” (PFL) program, a strategic door-to-door outreach which helps bring free medical care, services, training, education and transportation to people and their pets with little or no access to pet wellness otherwise. The PFL program is a revolutionary initiative that establishes a consistent community presence, and a unique, comprehensive follow up process that ensures relationships are nurtured on an ongoing basis. The program provides no-cost sterilization and vaccinations and also donates funds to be used to keeping pets in their current homes as opposed to using those funds towards taking, housing and re-homing. The program’s philosophy promotes the understanding that a lack of financial means does not equate to a lack of love felt for and provided to the pet. A pet can enhance Everyone's lives, and those choose to should have the opportunity to experience the unconditional love and meaningful relationship a pet brings.
The Pets for Life program and is an integral element of our objective to end pet overpopulation. There is an abundance of local organizations that offer aid for homeless pets, but this is one of the only programs addressing the much-needed dilemma of not only finding a pet a home, but preserving the pet and their well-being in that home.
