We provide our youth with a safe and supportive environment in which to learn, grow and develop positive relationships with peers and caring professionals. Boys and Girls Club of Stamford
The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford has been serving the community since 1927. The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford provides a comprehensive program schedule designed to meet the challenging needs of our at-risk youth. Our professional staff designs over 40 innovative programs that cover five core areas ヨ Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, The Arts, Health & Life Skills, and Sports and Recreation. Educational enrichment has a strong focus and occurs weekdays from 2:00pm-8:00PM, with Saturday Academy tutorial services running from 10 am ヨ 12 noon. Activities from the other four core program areas operate throughout the week until approximately 9 pm. These include numerous programs such as Immersion Learning Science, Smart Girls, Keystone Club, Fine Arts, Ballroom Dance, Latin Dance, Web Design, Robotics, Money Matters, Career Launch, Computer Lab, Cal Ripken Healthy Children/Healthy Choices, Cooking, Goals for Graduation, 5th Quarter Basketball, Flag Football and Summer Day Camp, to name a few. Ongoing special events focus on youth leadership, social concerns and family fun. Parental and community involvement is encouraged and facilitated throughout the year. We align our programming efforts with our national affiliate, The Boys & Girls Club of America. Following their national initiative, Formula for Impact, we focus our program outcomes on academic success, good character and citizenship and living a healthy lifestyle. The Boy and Girls Club of Stamford continually reach out to both individuals and community minded agencies. Our committed board of directors works diligently and has expanded their fundraising efforts which include the ICON Golf Tournament, the Champions of Youth Breakfast, the City Chic Gala and the Corporate 5K Race. Because of the expansive nature of our programs, the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford employs 8 full time and 25 part time staff members. The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford is located in census tract 214 where over 70% of the population is categorized as low income and over 17% of the population lives below the federal poverty level. 95% of the children at our boys and girls club come from low income or below households. 65% of these children reside in households earning under $15,000 a year. . With over 50% of our youth coming from single parent households, many of these young people have no adult supervision at home and spend each day at the Club. 44% of our youth are African American, 37% Hispanic, 7% Haitian, 3% Jamaican, 3% multi-racial, 4% Caucasian and 2% Asian.
