P.O. Box 9017
The Diaper Bank’s mission is threefold in scope: 1) To ensure that families living in poverty have an adequate supply of diapers for their infants and toddlers; 2) To raise community awareness that “basic human needs” include diapers and that these needs are not being met for children living in poverty; 3) To advocate for policy reform so that diapers are included in the definition of, and provision for, the “basic human needs” of families.

The Diaper Bank
Founded in 2004, The Diaper Bank centralizes the fundraising and distribution of free diapers to poor families in Connecticut through existing service providers, including local food pantries, soup kitchens, daycare centers, social service agencies and shelters. Recognizing that an inadequate supply of diapers puts families with young children at an increased risk for health and parenting complications, The Diaper Bank of Connecticut serves as a model for like-minded organizations across the country. The Diaper Bank has to date distributed more than 19 million free diapers to poor and low-income families through its extensive Diaper Distribution Network (DDN) of more than 50 agencies in New Haven, Fairfield, Hartford and Middlesex Counties. Modeled on successful regional food banks, TDB collects diapers and cash donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and other sources for the bulk purchase and distribution of diapers, which are then distributed through the DDN. All of the families TDB serves are low income, meeting the criteria of “below 200% of the federal poverty level.” Thanks to the generosity of individuals, foundations and companies across Connecticut, The Diaper Bank currently serves over 3,000 children each month, distributing more than 150,000 diapers per month to families in need in New Haven, Fairfield, Hartford and Middlesex Counties. Although this is a significant accomplishment, it is just scratching the surface of need, as there are over 39,500 children ages 0-3 living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level in the state of Connecticut. A simple thing like a diaper makes a world of difference for a child and a parent.
