The purpose of The Barnum Museum is to be a relevant institution of learning, committed to intellectual exchange, community engagement, and dedicated to the collection, preservation and interpretation of P.T. Barnumﾒs legacy and his genre in American history. The Barnum Museum was established in 1893 by P.T. Barnum as an institute of science and history. Today, the Museum continues to serve as a major cultural resource for tens-of-thousands who seek knowledge and enrichment. The Museum collections range from a 4,000 year-old Egyptian mummy to carriages used by the acclaimed General Tom Thumb. The Barnum Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2010, the Museum was struck by an F1 tornado is is undergoing a major capital campaign, restoration and re-envisioning. The Museum is seeking dynamic volunteers that can assist with administrative tasks, programs, and membership development.
