What we are looking for:
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is impacting students and families in our community. At SPEF, we are working closely with the City of Stamford and Stamford Public Schools to do all we can to support their most urgent needs. The Stamford Public School district is providing Grab and Go Meals to anyone under the age of 18, at sites throughout the City. SPEF needs 50 adult volunteers to hand out prepared breakfasts and lunches during the hours of 9:45 am – 12:15 pm in the following schedules: SPRING BREAK SERVER: Availability April 1 (training), April 6, 8 and 10 from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm; OR BACKUP SERVER: Availability on April 1 (training), then Mon, Wed, and/or Fri from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm. In the event the scheduled server is unable to be at their location to serve meals backup servers will be notified by 9:00 am if they are needed that day. Training on Wednesday, April 1 from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm is mandatory for participation. Sorry, we can not acocomdate shorter shifts at this time given the challenges that come with shift changes. Volunteers will need to complete an application and waiver, plus consent to a background check. UPDATED: ADDITIONAL SITE INFORMATION Social distancing. Social distancing protocols are in practice at every site.A security guard is monitoring the line, allowing one person to enter the pickup area at a time. If the pick-up area is large enough, the guard is allowing people to enter in an orderly and spaced manner. Hand sanitizing stations/Gloves. There are separate hand sanitizing stations at each site for servers/volunteers and for children/families. Gloves are provided at all sites. Masks. Due to the national shortage of masks, there are no masks available for servers/volunteers at the sites. If you have a mask, you are welcome to bring your own. Food Preparation. Meals are prepared and packaged by trained food service staff following all required safety precautions. Servers/volunteers do not prepare any food/enter the food prep area. Meal distribution. Servers/volunteers are there to ensure each person takes the appropriate number of packaged meals and keep the packages/bags organized for easy taking and counting. There is no physical contact at the pickup point (you’re not handing the bag directly to the person). Training. Volunteers will be asked to participate in a “shadow day” on Wednesday, April 1, from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm. Sites. As of March 30, 13 schools and 5 community organizations (i.e. community centers, churches) will be distributing Grab and Go Meals. We will do our best to place you close to home, but our priority will be to ensure the sites that need the most assistance are appropriately staffed.
