What we are looking for:
BLOOD SERVICES TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST As a volunteer driver, you’ll play a critical role in helping make sure blood products are available when patients need it. Please note: You will be driving from Farmington, CT or to Farmington if doing Blood Drive pick-ups. Drivers help deliver blood products to local and regional hospitals in the area. Patients need blood for many different reasons. Accident and burn victims, those receiving treatment for cancer, heart surgery patients and many others all may need blood. The time you dedicate to volunteer greatly contributes to our life-saving mission! Key Responsibilities: • Transport blood from blood collection sites to the laboratory for processing • Distribute tested blood and blood products to area hospitals • Pick-up and return empty boxes from hospitals • Deliver blood and other materials to and from other regional sites • Complete required paperwork and obtain required signatures • Communicate with Red Cross staff regarding changes and urgent issues • Drive in a safe and responsible manner adhering to all traffic laws (you will be provided a Red Cross vehicle) • Punctual and dependable in arriving for assignment(s) Time Commitment: • Shifts available when you are available: mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends • Minimum commitment: 1 shift/month • Approximately 5-6 hours per shift Qualifications: • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission • Valid state driver’s license – 3 years driving experience • Able to verify safe driving records with state or insurance • Experience to demonstrate reliability • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. • Successful completion of ARC Defensive Driving Course (within 6 months of placement) • At least 1 shift per month preferred
