What we are looking for:
Purpose Volunteers will be able to choose from a number of positions that help individuals and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and man-made disasters both large and small. Positions/Responsibilities We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available on our disaster team. You can volunteer in one of more of these areas:    Disaster Preparedness - our preparedness team helps individuals and communities prepare for disasters. Activities include smoke alarm installation, training school-age children on disaster preparedness, and preparedness presentations delivered to local businesses and community groups.    Local Disaster Response - Nationwide, our volunteer Disaster Action Teams (DAT) respond to 60,000 local disasters (mainly home fires) a year. DAT volunteers make themselves available to help families impacted by local disasters when they sign up for a shift.    Disaster Recovery - Volunteers assist individual and families to develop a recovery plan after local disasters. (mainly home fires)    Local Disaster Readiness - Volunteers help support planning, building our local resources, and developing partnerships so we can effectively respond when a large disaster (hurricane, flood, etc.) affects our local area. Volunteers can help with logistics, technology, government coordination, disability integration, sheltering, feeding, and many other activities.    National Disaster Deployment - When large scale disasters occur across the country, we can deploy specially trained volunteers to help support the relief operation. The typical disaster deployment is for two weeks.    Time Commitment Time Commitment varies by position. Requirements Training differs by position. On-line and in-person training is provided.
