What we are looking for:
Lead Volunteer, Elementary The mission of Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education (NGTE) is to build strength of character and a foundation for success through tennis and education. Our goal is to ensure each of our kids is on a path towards success on the court, in the classroom and in life. NGTE provides year- round educational support services to our student-athletes and equips them with the confidence and skills needed to succeed at school, at home and in life. NGTE provides a weekday tutoring program in conjunction with tennis instruction for students in Norwalk, CT. The success of our program relies upon the contributions of volunteers. We are seeking lead volunteers to manage our elementary school classroom, Monday – Thursday, 3:30-5:30pm. Supported by NGTE staff, lead volunteers will be responsible for managing both the students and the adults in the classroom, ensuring that tutors have the opportunity to work with students and that students are completing their homework assignments. The Lead Volunteer will need to commit one day per week. Qualifications/ Characteristics The Lead Volunteer must be a college student, professional, retiree, or NGTE parent Commitment to and belief in all children’s ability to succeed and thrive Enthusiastic, upbeat and positive attitude Ability to remain calm Dependable and Mature Responsibilities Manage the elementary school classroom to ensure that volunteers are paired with students and that students are engaged and completing their assignments Punctual and consistent attendance; advance notification of absences encouraged Tutor individual students as needed, but the primary focus is on managing the room Manage the distribution of snacks within the classroom Develop relationships with individual student-athletes and their families Benefits Personal gratification through enhancing the lives of young learners and supporting a critical component of our after school program Opportunity to develop relationships with Grassroots student-athletes Genuine community engagement Application/Screening Process Volunteer Application Form Background check Interested volunteers should contact Chantae Campbell at firstname.lastname@example.org or (203) 939-1770
