Reflecting on my first week of internships

As the first week of interning with Volunteer Square draws to a close, reflecting back on it brings nothing but a smile and a feeling gratitude. Our first day was filled with anticipation and excitement, ready to meet the other fellow interns and learn our schedule for the upcoming week. At the end of each day, I was already excited for the next day, either to meet again or be volunteering some where else. I did not know that interning here would let me see a whole new side of either volunteering or working. One of the most important things I have learned so far is to take nothing for granted. As we worked at Person to Person on Thursday, a woman and her son came in, she explained her situation and immediantly the interns began to work to find them the clothes that they needed. A fellow intern and I digged through a never ending bin of clothes to find what they son needed, as others helped the woman find new shoes and clothes. Doing this made me realize how lucky we are, lucky enough to be in a position to help others when we can. At times it was hard, it was difficult to see how much a person or family struggled to get basic necessites, but it was liberating being able to help them. I am thankful and excited for my upcoming time with Volunteer Square, and continuation of work with the other interns!
