Blood Drive at the Congregational Church

This past Tuesday, the Newtown Women’s Club helped host an American Red Cross blood drive at the Newtown Congregational Church. A Women’s Club volunteer, Ms. Colleen Honan, reported that the turnout was fairly good, and that she registered three first-time donors, something she had never seen before. Ms. Honan explained that she cannot donate blood herself, but she is happy to find other ways of volunteering. “I like helping out,” she explained, “There’s always a need. I like dealing with people, I’m a people person.” Aside from hosting a blood drive every six to eight weeks, at the Congregational Church or Municipal Center, the Women’s Club also hosts food drives and plantings at parks like Dickinson, and runs an “adopt a family” program around the holidays. Ms. Colleen explained that joining the organization was a way of becoming active in town and working with friends. Check back in soon for more updates on events like these in Newtown and nearby!
