Volunteer at the Westport Library!

It's that time of year again, The 26th Annual Westport Libary Summer Book Sale. With over 70 categories of books and daily donations, the library relies on dedicated volunteers to sort and organize the books all year long as they prepare for their three annual sales.

Volunteers act as category managers for the donated books. The categories include foreign language, education, travel, culinary, poetry, and psychology, just to name a few. The library is always in need of volunteers to organize, price and prepare the books for the sale. Volunteers can make their own schedules and be responsible for a category they are interested in. The category managers volunteers get about the donated books and they love to see how their categories do at the sale. They have a real sense of ownership and pride over the collections they are responsible for, this is a great opportunity for people with a real interest in a specific category.

Last year more than 400 volunteers worked for 9 days to prepare and run the summer book sale. The 26th Annual Summer Book Sale under the tents on Jesup Green  is Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, July 15, 10-5 p.m.; Monday, July 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (everything half-price); Tuesday, July 17, 9 am to 1 p.m. (contribution day—suggested donations of $5 per bag).

The annual sale features more than 100,000 deeply discounted books and other items in over seventy categories from art to zoology, with a particularly large selection of art and photography this year. Other categories represented include fiction and mystery (both hardcover and paperback), travel, biography, business, music, science, religion, performing arts, history, cooking, home, crafts, and sports. In addition to books, there will be DVDs, CDs, vinyl, and audiobooks. You can find more much information on The Westport Library's website.
