We are one week away from accepting submissions for our Annual High School Essay Contest. To enter the contest, the tell us in 500 words or less "What Community Volunteering Means to You?" Submissions will be accepted from October 24th – November 7, 2016. Rules and requirements can be found here, we can’t wait to hear from you!

We are thrilled to announce that we've welcome three high school interns to the Volunteer Square team and they having been busy spreading the word about the essay contest and the Volunteer Square community, all over Fairfield County. Here's an introduction to one of our awesome new interns, Kevin Moccia.

d-campusdocumentstorepics5046Kevin, a Trumbull High School junior, has lived in Trumbull all his life with his parents and his brother. At THS, Kevin takes honors and AP classes while also running for the track team, playing saxophone for the concert and jazz bands and he recently joined the Model Congress club. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family. He has recently started touring colleges in the Northeast area, although he still undecided about what to pursue as a career. Kevin considers himself to be a hardworking and kind person who looks for any opportunity to help people in his community.

Through his internship, he hopes to encourage other teens to pursue their passion, to strengthen their drive to make a difference and to get involved in community service projects.  Kevin shared that he and his friends often have trouble finding volunteer opportunities for their age group and he is excited to use VolunteerSquare.com as a tool to locate opportunities in his community. He will encourage others in his peer group to do the same. Kevin believes that volunteering is not just for fulfilling service hours at school, but also a way to experience the feeling of fulfillment you get from helping people and making an impact in the lives of others.

Volunteer Square is committed to providing our interns with the tools for success and we are thrilled to have such talented young people on board. Check out our blog on Mondays for introductions to the other Volunteer Square interns and to hear about the exciting things they are contributing to communities all over Fairfield County.
