Holiday Traditions

The holiday season is a time to celebrate traditions. Traditions have many benefits, they help us stay connected to family and friends, teach practical skills and values, create memories and strengthen bonds. This season is a great time to start a volunteer tradition with our family, book club, faith community or school if you don't have one already. Make a difference in your community, while also spending time with people you care about and having fun doing it.

Last holiday season, people from all over the East Coast, shared their stories with us about their holiday volunteer traditions through our Share ONE, Give ONE campaign and we loved reading these inspirational memories. With this campaign, we started our the Volunteer Square team tradition of giving back one hour for every submission we received. In 2017, we gave over 25 hours back to the community and we hope to double that for 2018. Please help us by sharing something you do with your family, school or faith group or something you do on your own each year at the holidays. For each submission received, the Volunteer Square interns will give back one hour of service in 2018.  All accepted submissions will be posted live on our website site as inspiration for those looking to start their own holiday volunteer tradition and to celebrate the outstanding service of our Volunteer Square community as 2017 comes to a close.

Submissions will be accepted through Sunday, December 31, 2017. You can submit by visiting our site or by posting on our Facebook page. Submissions must be no longer than 150 words and photos are strongly encouraged. Submissions are limited to one per person and will be tracked by email address.

Spread the word, post on your social media sites, tell your family and friends. We can't wait for the stories to come in and the hours to add up. Check the website daily for new submissions and watch as the hours accumulate. Need some inspiration to get started? Check out our Shared Stories from last year. Thanks in advance for participating and happy holidays from all of us at Volunteer Square!
