We love welcoming guest bloggers to the Volunteer Square blog. This week we are thrilled to share a post from the Financial Accounting Foundation, Financial Accounting Standards Board, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board Community Outreach, and Activities Team. Volunteer Square had the pleasure of helping their team coordinate a day of service at Domus on June 29th. They even invited our high school interns to participate. It was a great day and we want to thank the team for writing this fantastic blog post about the day's events!

On June 29, close to 40 of our FAF, FASB, and GASB staff, their kids, and several high school volunteers gave their time and considerable elbow grease to support our Summer community outreach program at Domus—a local nonprofit that serves more than 1,100 children by helping them acquire the life and academic skills they need to succeed in school and ultimately lead satisfying and productive lives.

Special thanks to Courtney March, Roseann Plank and Chris Roberge for organizing this event and ensuring everything ran smoothly throughout the day!

Our mission for the day: spruce up the Domus Trailblazers Academy building and grounds in preparation for their summer camp program.

After a brief introduction, we broke into our project teams and dove into our tasks with the same dedication and focus we bring to our own work every single day. Who knew we had so many talented landscapers, wall cleaners, painters, and staple removers among us?

No food tastes better than when you’re hungry after hard work. Fortunately, our lunch arrived just in time and we got to relive fond childhood memories of eating in a school cafeteria.

All-in-all it was truly a great event. The folks at Domus asked us to pass on their sincere appreciation for everyone’s hard work transforming their space, saying they would never have been able to achieve these results without our help.

Thanks again to everyone who gave their day and tons of hard work to help all the kids who benefit from Domus’ summer program: John Auchincloss, Matt Broder, Erin Cahill, Becca Cessna, Michael Cheng, Kelly Coyne, Jeff Gabello, Betsy Garti, Chiara Gilioli, Chris Klimek, Trent LaFrano, Mary Mazzella, Gerry McCormack, Tricia McKnight, Sue Miller, John Pappas, Lisa Pittu, Roseann Plank, Alicia Posta, Peter Proestakes, John Richter, Chris Roberge, Francesca Roberts, Gabrielle Roe, Christian Romanelli, Peter Spencer, Jialan Su, Stacey Sutay, Lisa Valentini-Ghosh, Jenifer Wyss

Thanks also to everyone who contributed new and gently used books to the Domus book cart program. With your help, we collected three large boxes full of great summer reads.
