Hometown Hero Spotlight on Paul Cahill

Volunteer Square loves to recognize exceptional individuals that donate their time and energy to nonprofit organizations across Connecticut. These volunteers make a true impact in the lives of others. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, annual volunteer recognition events had to be canceled so we wanted to offer an alternative way to honor volunteers. We reached out to all the volunteer coordinators we work with and asked them to nominate volunteers. We are thrilled to share all the wonderful stories here and on our website, over the next several weeks. If you would like nominate a volunteer, please fill out this Nomination Form.

Nominated by -Laura Rundell, Volunteer Coordinator at Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County

Here is what Laura had to say about Paul:
One of our wonderful volunteers, Paul has been a volunteer with us since 2004. Prior to COVID, he provided respite and companionship visits to Hospice and Home Health patients. He is also a bereavement volunteer. Since COVID – he has been providing support calls to patients and family members to help them get through a very difficult time in their lives.

Hometown Hero Spotlight on Kate Parker-Burgard and Don Burgard

For the past two months, Volunteer Square has been recognizing exceptional individuals that donate their time and energy to nonprofit organizations across Connecticut. These volunteers make a true impact in the lives of others. We are thrilled to share their stories and give these volunteers the spotlight they deserve. If you would like to nominate a volunteer, please fill out this Nomination Form.

This week, we are excited to recognize two volunteers that did a very special project this July. Kate Parker Burgard and Don Burgard. Kate is the Director of the Center for Leadership at St. Luke's School in New Canaan and Don is the Copy/Production editor for Fine Gardening Magazine. I've had the pleasure of working with Kate over the last four years as we promoted volunteer opportunities, our annual High School Essay Contest, and our HS Internship programto St. Luke's School. We've been lucky to have students participate in all three initiatives thanks to Kate's guidance and encouragement.
