Fun Ways to Get Involved This Fall

Fall is a time for back to school, crisp air, pumpkin carving and the leaves on the trees starting to change colors. It’s also a great time to volunteer! Our friends at STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way… are gearing up to start their fall programs and they need your help. Check out the opportunities that STAR has available this fall for you, your friends and family, your colleagues and church groups to participate in together.

Staying Social All Year Long – P2P Social Returns!

With summer coming to an end, those social calendars are probably slowing down. Looking for a way to stay social throughout the year and make a difference in your community at the same time? If the answer is YES, P2P Social is the event for you!

Entering its 4th year, P2P Social returns on September 12th. Co-sponsored by VolunteerSquare and Darien based Person to Person, the event is every Monday during the school year, from 6pm – 8pm. This is a perfect opportunity for adults who want to give back to their communities, but don’t have time during the day. Volunteers will sort and display clothing donations, network and share resources, all while enjoying nibbles and drinks. Bring your friends and join us for some fun on Monday nights!

“Giving Back” has never been so easy. “Making a Difference” has never been so enjoyable.

Person-to-Person is a community-supported agency that provides emergency assistance for basic needs, and support for individuals and families as they move towards stability. Through their work they are transforming lives and building a stronger community.

VolunteerSquare Welcomes New Agencies

This week we welcomed two new agency partners. While each agency is unique in mission and service, one thing they share is their message. Through peace, hope and education they are strengthening the individuals and communities they serve and both rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers to help fulfill their missions. Please join us in welcoming these new agencies to the VolunteerSquare community!

Darien Book Aid Plan is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in Darien, CT. Their mission is to provide peace, understanding and friendship, as well as improving literacy and education worldwide through the free distribution of books. They collect, sort and pack books to fill requests from around the world.

In May 1949, Mrs. Gordon Lamont of Darien conceived the idea of sending good reading material to share the American way of life with war-torn Europe.  Gathering some friends together and with the help of Ambassador John Davis Lodge and other government officials and generous contributions from Darien residents, Darien Book Aid Plan was formed. The four boxes shipped in 1949 are now 20-30 boxes each week.  Between 16-20 tons of books each year go to 190 countries and all 50 of the United States.

For over 65 years this organization has been run entirely by volunteers. Join them as they continue to impact communities all over the world, volunteers can help out two hours per month, two hours per week or more!
